J + K Get Married on Quadra Island
Monday, May 8, 2017
It took an Uber to a plane to another plane to a taxi to a rental car to a ferry to get to Quadra Island.
It was quite the adventure. The ferry was one of my favorite legs, probably because that meant I was almost there, but it was beautiful and calm and the end of day light felt nostalgic as it danced on the water. Somewhere in the midst of travel I got sick with what was probably laryngitis, and I could feel it really hitting me on that ferry ride. I was supposed to officiate the wedding, but because of the laryngitis, I spent most of the long weekend not being able to speak. Kind of ironic that as soon as I am away, alone, without little voices constantly asking me for snacks or wrestling while I'm on the phone, that I lose my voice. I whispered my way through the weekend and it became sort of a joke that I wasn't allowed to speak so that I could hopefully regain my voice in time for the ceremony. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, so my brother, Jon, read what I had written. It worked out fine in the end, as most things do even when they don't go to plan. They got married, she looked gorgeous, he looked dapper, we danced, we ate, we toasted.
